SINGAPORE: Singapore has revoked the permanent residency of a prominent US academic after he allegedly used his position to covertly advance the agenda of an unnamed foreign country at Singapore’s expense. According to the ministry statement, Huang interacted with foreign agents and intelligence organisations and then tried to influence foreign policy and public opinion in Singapore. The statement doesn’t identify the foreign country he allegedly acted for. It was passed to senior public officials who were in a position to direct Singapore’s foreign policy, though the government declined to act on it, it said. In addition to his position at the school, Huang has been a board member for Keppel Land Ltd since 2014.
